Brown Spots

Brown, crinkly leaves may have you scouring your plant for bad insects or some bacterial infection, but it may simply be a matter of how it’s being watered (regardless of what Freud says, it’s not always the fault of the mother). Even a single drop of water can turn into a magnifying glass in the direct sun and it will burn the heck out of a leaf.

If at all possible, water plants in the early morning, and always water beneath the foliage. Try to water from the main stalk out to about 8 inches and let the water flow on the soil – not the plant. If you happen to splash water on the leaves, take a minute and wipe it off with a soft cloth, alternatively you can cover the plant with an umbrella until it dries. A big, bright, beach umbrella in the garden is actually a pretty cool sight to see!
